Jim Samuelson
Jim Samuelson is a shop steward with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), has been a letter carrier for the past eleven years, and is a proud union musician. He produces and hosts “The Silver Bullet Podcast” to educate Canada Post workers about postie news and the union movement in Canada and globally.
Prior to working for Canada Post, Jim was the CEO of Bignote Entertainment, a booking agent for folk music, small theatre shows, and other performers across North America and Australia. Jim was also the owner of Bignote Records and Bignote Music, a music store here in Calgary. Passionate about music and bringing people together, Jim can often be found playing union songs at strike lines, protests, and elsewhere, and has been creating community through weekly Hawaiian style ukulele jam sessions since 2009.
Jim is a second-generation Calgarian who has raised four children here in Calgary Crowfoot
with his wonderful wife, Stanis. Jim grew up in Briar Hill and attended public schools in the area. His family has held season tickets for the Stampeders since 1959. Since Jim's father passed in 2012, Jim takes his youngest son to every football game, sitting proudly in his father's seat.
Jim has been volunteering with the NDP across the country since 2016 and currently sits on the board in Calgary-North West (provincially) and Calgary Crowfoot (federally). With lived experience as a small business owner, musician, hula dancer, actor, and union activist, Jim has connected with a wide variety of Canadians. He knows that the only party that truly stands up for workers—teachers, nurses, postal workers, oil workers, and so many others—is the NDP.
Together, we can ensure all workers of Calgary Crowfoot and all of Canada can bargain freely without government intervention to ensure better working conditions and a fair living wage.
